The basics
What is My Energy Agent?
My Energy Agent is an independent electricity plan finder for households in South East Queensland. It prices every generally available residential plan against your actual usage, recommends the three worth switching to, forecasts your costs for the next 12 months and, on a watch plan, keeps checking so you stay on a good deal. You pay for it directly, with a one-off check or a small yearly fee, and it takes no money from energy retailers.
Who can use it?
Households in South East Queensland whose electricity is delivered by Energex: Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, Redland, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and the surrounding areas. It is the only part of Queensland with retail competition. Regional Queensland is served by Ergon Energy on regulated prices, so there is nothing to compare there yet. Other states are planned later.
How is this different from comparison websites?
Most comparison websites are paid commissions by retailers and typically rank only the retailers on their panel. My Energy Agent is paid only by you, compares every generally available plan in your area using the regulator's own plan data, and uses your actual bill or meter data rather than an average household.
How is this different from Energy Made Easy?
Energy Made Easy is the Australian Energy Regulator's free comparison site. It is impartial, covers every plan, and can pull in your usage history if you enter your NMI. We think it is a good place to start. It does not read your bill for you, does not forecast your next 12 months, does not tell you what to change at home, and does not keep checking after you leave. My Energy Agent does all four, paid for by you rather than by retailer commissions.
Money
Do you get paid by energy retailers?
No. No commissions, referral fees, affiliate links, sponsored placements or data sales, from any retailer, on any plan. Links to retailers in your report are plain links with no tracking. Many comparison services are free because retailers pay them when you switch; you pay us instead, which is the whole reason the service costs money and the reason you can trust the answer.
How much does it cost?
The Quick Scan is free. After that, indicative launch pricing is A$9.99 once for Check My Plan, A$29 a year for Energy Watch or A$49 a year for Always On, GST inclusive. Every paid plan starts with a personalised comparison on your bill; Energy Watch and Always On then keep checking through the year. If you check once and later want us to keep going, add Energy Watch for A$19.01 and the A$9.99 is credited. Final prices are confirmed before launch and wait-list members hear first.
What does the free Quick Scan tell me?
Enter your postcode, how many people live at home and whether you have solar, and the scan shows how many generally available plans there are in your area, what they cost a home like yours on typical usage from cheapest to dearest, and how big the gap is between an ordinary plan and the best one. It is worked out from the regulator's plan data by the same pricing engine as the paid check, but on benchmark usage, so it is an estimate of the market, not a recommendation. It cannot say whether you personally are on a good deal; that needs your bill.
What does Energy Watch actually do?
It keeps you on a good deal. You get a personalised comparison to start, then we re-check the market against your latest usage about every three months, around the 1 July price changes, and when your retailer changes your rates where we can detect it. Each bill you send is scored against the forecast. If a plan beats yours by more than your threshold, you get a report that leads with the number; if not, you hear nothing but a short note. Always On adds daily monitoring for newly released or materially changed plans and an alert when a genuinely better deal appears.
I bought a one-off check. Can I switch to Energy Watch?
Yes, from your report page, and the A$9.99 you paid is credited: a year of Energy Watch costs A$19.01 instead of A$29. Your report and profile carry over, so the checks start from what we already know.
What if you cannot find me a better plan?
Sometimes you are already on a good deal, and the report will say so plainly. If the first search cannot produce a recommendation at all, for example because the address is outside South East Queensland or a bill cannot be read after a retry, you get a full refund.
Can I cancel?
Yes, any time, from your report page. No lock-in. Cancel any time from your report page: nothing more is charged, and we keep checking until the end of the year you've paid for. No exit fee, and we remind you 14 days before a yearly renewal. The one-off check never renews, so there is nothing to cancel.
How it works
How are the savings worked out?
A deterministic pricing engine lays your usage over a full year, half hour by half hour, and prices every eligible plan on it: supply charges, usage rates by time of day, controlled loads, demand charges, solar feed-in credits, discounts, sign-up credits and GST. The saving is the difference between your current plan and each recommendation on the same usage. No dollar figure is ever produced by an AI model; the models only choose and explain.
Where does the plan data come from?
From the Australian Energy Regulator's public Consumer Data Right Product Reference Data feed, which every retailer is required to publish their plans to. We refresh it daily. Because it is the regulator's feed rather than a retailer relationship, no retailer can be left out or promoted.
Does it handle solar, controlled loads and the Solar Sharer Offer?
Yes. Solar export and feed-in tariffs, controlled-load hot water on Tariff 31 or 33, time-of-use and demand tariffs, and the Solar Sharer Offer's free daytime window are all modelled, and the report says whether shifting loads such as a pool pump or dishwasher into that window changes the answer.
What happens on a scheduled deal check?
The engine re-prices your current plan and every eligible plan on the latest catalogue against your latest usage. If a plan beats yours by more than your threshold (A$50 a year or 5% by default), you get a full report and an email that leads with the number. If nothing has changed, you get a short note saying so, or nothing but a dashboard entry if you would rather only hear when there is something to do.
Do you switch me over?
Not yet. The report gives you step-by-step switching instructions and a direct link to the retailer, and reminds you of the 10-business-day cooling-off period that applies to a new market contract from the day you receive the contract details. You tell us when you have switched so the next check starts from your new plan.
Your data
Where is my data stored?
In Australia. Everything runs in AWS's Sydney region, and the AI models that read bills and write reports run only in Sydney and Melbourne. Bills never leave the country.
What do you collect and how long do you keep it?
An email address for your report, and whichever of an address, bills or meter data you choose to give us. No phone number, no date of birth. Names, meter numbers and account numbers are masked before any AI model sees a bill. Bills and usage data are kept while you are on a watch plan so forecasts can be scored against actual bills, and deleted 30 days after it ends, or 30 days after a one-off check. You can delete them sooner with one click. The free Quick Scan stores nothing.
Do you sell or share my data?
No. Your data is used only to produce your report and, if you opt in, to improve bill reading using anonymised extracts. It is never sold and never shared with retailers.
