What the free scan tells you
- How many generally available plans there are in your area, and from how many retailers

- Whether the gap between an ordinary plan and the best one makes a proper check worthwhile
Benchmark usage, guaranteed rates, the regulator’s plan data. Approximate by design, and the same for every home of that size.
What it can’t tell you
Whether you are on a good deal. That depends on your actual tariff, your usage through the day and the year, your solar, your hot water and the discount conditions on your current plan. Your bill has all of that; the scan has none of it. A home with solar panels is the clearest case, because it usually imports far less than the figure the scan uses.

What does the free Quick Scan tell me?
Enter your postcode, how many people live at home and whether you have solar, and the scan shows how many generally available plans there are in your area, what they cost a home like yours on typical usage from cheapest to dearest, and how big the gap is between an ordinary plan and the best one. It is worked out from the regulator's plan data by the same pricing engine as the paid check, but on benchmark usage, so it is an estimate of the market, not a recommendation. It cannot say whether you personally are on a good deal; that needs your bill.
How is this different from comparison websites?
Most comparison websites are paid commissions by retailers and typically rank only the retailers on their panel. My Energy Agent is paid only by you, compares every generally available plan in your area using the regulator's own plan data, and uses your actual bill or meter data rather than an average household.
Do you get paid by energy retailers?
No. No commissions, referral fees, affiliate links, sponsored placements or data sales, from any retailer, on any plan. Links to retailers in your report are plain links with no tracking. Many comparison services are free because retailers pay them when you switch; you pay us instead, which is the whole reason the service costs money and the reason you can trust the answer.
How much does it cost?
The Quick Scan is free. After that, indicative launch pricing is A$9.99 once for Check My Plan, A$29 a year for Energy Watch or A$49 a year for Always On, GST inclusive. Every paid plan starts with a personalised comparison on your bill; Energy Watch and Always On then keep checking through the year. If you check once and later want us to keep going, add Energy Watch for A$19.01 and the A$9.99 is credited. Final prices are confirmed before launch and wait-list members hear first.
