Why independent
If a retailer paid us, the answer would be for them. So none does.
An electricity comparison is only worth having if it was made for you. That is the whole reason My Energy Agent charges you a small fee instead of taking commissions, and it shapes every design decision below.
Comparison sites paid by retailers are not comparing on your behalf. They are selling on the retailer’s behalf, to you. We think a household should be able to buy the other kind of advice for the price of a coffee a month.
The promise
Seven things we hold ourselves to.
We take no money from retailers
No commissions, referral fees, affiliate links, sponsored placements, lead sales or data sales, from any retailer, on any plan. The links in your report go straight to the retailer's own page with no tracking on them. If a retailer ever offered us money we would say no, and we would tell you they asked.
We compare every plan, not a panel
Every retailer must publish its generally available plans to the Australian Energy Regulator's public Consumer Data Right feed. We read the whole feed daily and price every residential plan available to your postcode. A retailer cannot be left out because it does not pay us, and cannot be promoted because it does.
Every dollar figure is computed, never generated
A deterministic pricing engine, tested against hand-worked examples, does all the arithmetic on a full year of half-hourly usage. AI models are used to read bills, choose between priced plans and explain the result in plain English. They are never permitted to produce a price, and a separate checking model verifies every number in the report against the engine before you see it.
The ranking is conservative
Plans are ranked on what they cost if you never meet a single discount condition, because paying a day late should not turn a good plan into a bad one. Conditional savings are shown separately and labelled. "Up to" does not appear in our reports.
Every result can be re-run
Each report records the plan-catalogue snapshot it used, the engine version and the profile it priced. If you or we ever doubt a figure, the same inputs give the same answer again. The snapshot date is printed on every report.
Your data stays in Australia and does not stay long
Everything runs in AWS's Sydney region. The AI models that read bills and write reports run only in Sydney and Melbourne. Names, meter numbers and account numbers are masked before a model sees a bill. Bills and usage data are kept while you subscribe, because forecast-versus-actual needs them, and deleted 30 days after you leave or the moment you ask.
Leaving is as easy as joining
Cancel from your report page in as many clicks as it took to sign up. No lock-in, no exit fee, no retention screens. Nothing more is charged once you cancel, and we keep checking to the end of the year you paid for. The one-off check never renews.
How we make money
You pay us. That’s it.
A fee of A$9.99 once, or A$29 to A$49 a year, depending on whether you want the market checked. There is no other revenue line: no advertising, no leads, no data. If we ever added one, we would have to tell you and let you cancel first, and we would rather not.
What we don’t do
Honest limits.
- We don’t switch you. We give you the steps and the link; you make the call, with the 10-business-day cooling-off period on your side.
- We don’t cover gas, small business, embedded networks or regional Queensland (there is no retail competition outside the Energex area).
- We don’t predict the next 1 July price change. We mark it and tell you what the forecast assumes.
- We don’t model home batteries or virtual power plants in detail yet. The report says so when it matters to you.
- We don’t give financial advice, and we never suggest electrical work you would need a licence for.
